Welcome to Business Nuggets, a selection of great business ideas from coffee business owners around the world that you could consider implementing in your business.
“Bottomless” Mug Option
First idea comes from Andrea de Francisco, the owner of Cafe St. Jorge in San Francisco, CA. If you have not yet read Andrea’s interview on CoffeeShopr, check it out. It’s full of inspiration and great business advice.
Andrea implemented a “bottomless” mug option at St. Jorge with a message that literally reads “please, stay a while.”
Here, she explains what it’s all about.
“The reason I did it is because I want people to feel welcome and to feel like Cafe St. Jorge is their third-place (outside of home and work).
My favorite mornings are the morning where I am able to sit down with the San Francisco Chronicle over a delicious cup of coffee. I continue to fill it, even if I don’t drink the whole cup, but just to continue keeping it warm. It is a nice morning ritual. At home, you are able to get up and continue filling your cup, keeping it warm. I wanted people to feel that same way at the cafe.”
When I am in San Francisco next time, I’ll go with the “bottomless” mug for sure.

Awesome Coffee Carriers
Finally, another favorite of mine this week are awesome coffee carriers.
First comes from La Distributrice, a quirky coffee shop in Montreal, Canada, said to be the smallest coffee shop in North America.
Check their coffee carriers out. They are just awesome!
Second example comes from Pablo & Rusty’s, coffee roasters in Australia. Designed by Manual, based on minimalist color palette, this beautiful and simplistic cup holder greatly adds to the overall customer enjoyment but also makes it easy to identify the brand from a distance.
