Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Co. is recalling paper coffee cup sleeves that can ignite when used in a microwave, posing a fire hazard.
St. Louis-based Kaldi’s is recalling 700,000 Java Jacket Disposable Cup Sleeves used before April that came free with 12-ounce and 16-ounce hot drinks purchased at Missouri Kaldi’s cafes from February 2014 through March 2015. The black disposable sleeves have “Kaldi’s Coffee” and its logo printed on the front and “100% Recycled Paperboard” printed on the back.
Kaldi’s said it removed all potentially affected sleeves from its company-owned cafes in March, within 24 hours of being notified of the fire hazard. “For the past 2 months, all of the sleeves distributed are new and unaffected,” the companyposted on its website. “The sleeves that were affected by this recall should have been removed from circulation several months ago, but if you have an old sleeve in your possession and aren’t sure when you received it, please dispose of it.”
